Electricity Sector | Current Situation
 - Twenty-five years of war and insurgency have negatively affected power assets such as plants, substations, towers and lines.
- More than two decades of neglect and poor maintenance have caused major deterioration to both power systems and infrastructure.
- Iraq has a current power capacity of 5,500 megawatts, however the government's target is 25,000 megawatts within the next five years.
- The Ministry of Electricity has drawn up a list of 200 power projects for immediate repair and upgrade.
